HOPE for Scotland – Helping Shape a Better Future

As many of you will know our Bluebird Project works with parents who have lost permanent care of at least one child. Building on this project, Naomi our Bluebird Coordinator is involved in the HOPE for Scotland project, alongside researchers, practitioners, birth parents, adopted young people, adopters and foster carers. Together, we are exploring ways to make the experience of separation less traumatic for babies and their families when children cannot remain at home.

The project is exploring how meaningful memories, information and keepsakes can be preserved for children and their birth families at a time of significant change and loss. A key part of the project is listening to people with lived experience. We are delighted that some of the birth parents involved in our Bluebird Project are helping to shape this work, ensuring that their voices and experiences are at the heart of future developments.

The project will also be seeking the views of adopters and foster carers, recognising the important role they play in helping children understand their life stories and maintain precious memories and connections.

We look forward to sharing more updates as the project develops and to working together to create a more compassionate and supportive approach for children who cannot live with their birth families.
