Luke Wright: Later Life Letter
Join Scottish Adoption and Fostering and Adoption UK for an unforgettable evening of poetry, laughter and honest reflections on adoption, identity and belonging.
What does it mean to be someone’s child? How do we honour the parents who raised us while exploring the story of where we came from? And how might understanding our past help us make sense of who we are today?
These are some of the big questions at the heart of Later Life Letter, an acclaimed performance by poet and performer Luke Wright, coming to Edinburgh for one night only on 26 November at 7pm.
Scottish Adoption and Fostering, in conjunction with Adoption UK, are delighted to bring this very special performance to the beautiful St Cecilia’s Hall: Concert Room & Music Museum at the University of Edinburgh.
An adoption story told with warmth, wit and honesty
Blending poetry, stand-up comedy and deeply personal storytelling, Later Life Letter explores Luke’s own experience of adoption and the complex emotions that can come with understanding our beginnings.
With his trademark wit, sharp observations and refreshing honesty, Luke explores the questions that can sit beneath the surface of our lives: identity, family, belonging and the search to understand where we come from.
How do we make sense of our own story when it includes people we may never have met? How do we hold space for different parts of our identity? And how do we reconcile the life we have lived with the life we might have led?
Luke approaches these questions with warmth, humour and sensitivity, creating a performance that is as thought-provoking as it is entertaining. Expect raucous laughter, moving moments, unexpected revelations and even a little drum and bass!
Whether adoption is part of your own story, you work alongside adopted people and families, or you simply enjoy powerful live storytelling, Later Life Letter offers a chance to reflect, connect and perhaps see things from a different perspective.
A night to laugh, reflect and connect
Adoption stories are rarely straightforward, and there is no single way to experience or understand them. Luke’s performance recognises the many emotions that can sit alongside one another: love and curiosity, gratitude and uncertainty, humour and heartache.
By sharing his own story so openly, Luke creates space for conversations about the things that make us who we are. His performance reminds us that exploring our roots and understanding our identity can be a deeply personal journey, shaped by our experiences, our relationships and the questions we carry with us.
Set in the unique surroundings of St Cecilia’s Hall, this special Edinburgh performance promises to be a memorable evening, bringing together poetry, comedy and an honest exploration of what it means to belong.
And the experience doesn’t end when the curtain falls. Your ticket includes a light refreshment and the opportunity to meet Luke Wright at the end of the show.
