LGBTQ+ Adoption and Fostering Week

At Scottish Adoption and Fostering, we are proud to stand alongside all parents and carers, regardless of background, and we are deeply committed to ensuring that LGBTQ+ people feel welcomed, respected, and supported throughout their adoption or fostering journey.

In 2025 over 40% of our adopters or foster carers were LGBTQ+, compared to the national average of 13%. A statistic that we are proud of. 2nd of March 2026 marks the start of Adoption and Fostering LGBTQ+ Awareness Week and we will be holding an information session for prospective LGBTQ+ adopters or foster carers on Wednesday 4th March at 7.30pm. The session is free to attend and offers the opportunity to speak to others who have been on they journey before you.

Adoption and fostering can be life-changing experiences, both for children who need loving homes and for families who open their hearts. For LGBTQ+ people, there can sometimes be additional questions or concerns about how they will be perceived or supported. At Scottish Adoption and Fostering, we are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and understanding environment from the very first step of the process.

One same-sex couple shared their experience with us:

“From day one, we felt fully supported and championed by Scottish Adoption and Fostering at every step. We cannot recommend them highly enough. The way all parents are treated equally is truly commendable. As a same-sex couple, we are always aware of how we’re perceived in society, particularly as parents — and Scottish Adoption & Fostering genuinely understood that.”

Their words reflect the heart of our approach: every prospective parent and carer is treated with fairness, empathy, and respect, so they can focus on what really matters — preparing to create a loving, stable home for a child.

If you’re part of the LGBTQ+ community and thinking about adoption or fostering, we invite you to join one of our free information sessions. These sessions provide a safe and welcoming space to learn more about the process, ask questions, and explore the support available to you. Experienced staff and fellow parents are on hand to guide you and share their insights, ensuring you feel confident as you take the first steps toward building your family.
