Join us for Adoption Week Scotland 2026

Every November, Adoption Week Scotland brings people together to celebrate adoption, raise awareness and shine a light on the support available to children, young people and families.

It’s also a wonderful opportunity to connect with others, share experiences and celebrate the many different stories that make up the adoption community.

At Scottish Adoption & Fostering, we’ve got a fantastic programme of activities planned this year, with opportunities to celebrate creativity, find out more about adoption and fostering, learn something new and enjoy a special evening of performance and poetry.

We’d love you to join us! Here’s what’s coming up.

Forever Me – Celebrating creativity and young people’s voices

Tuesday 17 November | 7.30pm

We’re delighted to be celebrating the creativity, ideas and voices of young people through a very special project.

Pauline Lockhart and Alan Penman, writers of the new musical Forever Home, have been working with young people from Scottish Adoption & Fostering’s Teen Group and Girls Group, helping them explore their creativity and develop their own songs, poems, monologues and short scripts.

These original pieces will be brought to life by professional actors in a special performance celebrating young people’s voices, experiences and imagination.

This is an invitation-only event.

Come along to our Agency Open Evening

Wednesday 18 November | 6.00pm

Curious about adoption or fostering? We’d love to welcome you to our Edinburgh office for a relaxed and informal evening with our friendly team.

Whether you’re just starting to explore the idea or would simply like to find out a little more, this is a great opportunity to ask questions, hear about the support available and discover what an adoption or fostering journey with us might look like. There’s no pressure or expectation – just a chance to have a conversation and find out more.

You’ll have the opportunity to meet colleagues from across our agency, including our in-house therapy centre team, who can tell you more about the therapeutic support available to families when a child joins their home. We’ll also be offering a guided tour of our therapy centre facilities.

It’s free to attend, but please sign up in advance.

Free online workshop: Understanding and preventing childhood verbal abuse by adults so children can thrive

Friday 20 November | 12.00pm

Did you know that 2 in 5 children (41%) experience verbal abuse from adults?

The impact of hurtful words can last a lifetime, but with greater awareness, understanding and the right tools, we can all play a part in helping children feel safe, valued and supported.

We’re pleased to be hosting a free, interactive online workshop exploring childhood verbal abuse, what it looks like and how we can help prevent it.

The session will cover:

  • What childhood verbal abuse is and the impact it can have on children.
  • How to recognise verbal abuse and understand its effects.
  • Practical ways to communicate with children that help them feel heard, respected and supported.

The training will be delivered by Words Matter, alongside Dr Fiona Pienaar, a highly experienced clinical advisor in child development and mental health.

Whether you’re a parent, carer, professional or simply interested in learning more, this is a valuable opportunity to develop your understanding and take away practical ideas.

The workshop is free to attend.

Luke Wright: Later Life Letter

Thursday 26 November | 7.00pm

We’re delighted to be joining forces with Adoption UK to bring acclaimed poet and performer Luke Wright to Edinburgh for one special evening of Later Life Letter.

What does it mean to be someone’s child? How do you honour the parents who raised you while exploring the story of where you came from? And what happens when the life you’ve lived meets the life you might have led?

In this warm, funny and deeply personal performance, Luke explores his own adoption story through a brilliant mix of poetry and stand-up. With his trademark wit, honesty and razor-sharp observations, he explores identity, family, belonging and the complexities of discovering your roots.

Expect plenty of laughs, moving moments, unexpected revelations and even a little drum and bass! It’s an unforgettable performance that will make you laugh, cry and think long after the final words have been spoken.

Don’t miss this special opportunity to see Luke live in Edinburgh.
