Who Can Foster?
Foster carers come from all walks of life. You can be single or partnered, LGBTQIA+, from any faith or cultural background, and with or without children. What matters most is your ability to offer a safe, loving, and supportive home. We look at the care and commitment you can provide to a child — not your marital status, income, or background.
We need you!
The number of foster carers in Scotland is decreasing, and sadly this means there are now far fewer approved carers than children who need a safe and secure home. If you’ve ever thought about fostering, we would love to hear from you. All we ask is that you are over 21 years of age, have a spare room in your home, and live within approximately 60 miles of Edinburgh.
We welcome fostering enquiries from the LGBTQIA+ community, whether you are in a same sex relationship or are looking to make an application as a single foster carer.
We are members of New Family Social and for our LGBTQIA+ families, we run a specific adoption fostering support group.
Ethnic Minority Backgrounds
If you are from an ethnic minority background, your experience and perspective are incredibly important, and we would be delighted to speak with you. At Scottish Adoption and Fostering, we actively welcome applications from prospective foster carers of all racial and cultural backgrounds.
Applications from prospective single foster carers of all backgrounds are very much welcomed at Scottish Adoption and Fostering.
We will work with you to ensure that you have a good support network around you as you embark on your journey to foster and beyond.
